HOW TO AUTOMATICALLY INSTALL BLOGGER TEMPLATES

As a new blogger, one of the curiosity you will be having is how to give your blog a very good look or design, but you don't have to be curious anymore. Here lies the answer to your curiosity.

For your blog to have a very good and outstanding design as you wish it lies on the kind of blogger template or theme you choose. Even though by default, google already provided some templates for everyone to use freely but not everyone will like or want to get used to such default templates. And that's where the word "Custom or Customised Template" comes in. There are both free and premium (paid) templates out there on the internet for you to grab and give your blog that awesomeness it deserves.

What is a template or theme?
A template or theme is actually your blogger design. It determines how your blog looks, the colors, styles, structure and so on. In terms of designing a top website it is commonly known as Web Design but right on blogger all blog design lies inside a blogger theme or template. Google blogger uses .xml extension as its template file format, and XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language. If you try to install any other format besides it, you will be getting an "error" message due to the file extension/format.

Note: Sometimes, you will as well get "a parsing error message" even if you are uploading the right blogger template extension due to the fact that the template in question is containing some code errors that blogger cannot accept. To fix this, you have to try out another template or use the Method 2 listed here if you are familiar with HTML Codes.

There are actually two (2) methods for installing blogger templates, and they are both listed below.

Method 1: Automatic
This is the first and most commonly used method being used by new bloggers as its the first and most easy method to be easily discover. Although this method works quite alright most times but not always perfect as there will be some codes clashing internally on your template.

For Instance: Applying a new template doesn't delete some or any of your old template's widget (or other properties), rather it adds the properties/contents of the new template on the old one which can out your blog in an ugly or faulty situation. If you encounter such, you can use the Method 2 to fix it.

I know you may be wondering what exactly might be causing these clashes on your blog after applying a new template. It happens mainly as a result of applying too many templates with each leaving a property behind even after installing a new one.

How to automatically apply a blogger template:
Login into your blogger dashboard and click on "Theme" (though this used to be called "Template" till Google changed it as of recent) and then select "Backup/Restore" at the top right hand side.

In the next phase you will be provided with an option to either download your template backup or upload a new template from either your phone or computer (whichever device you are using).

Note: It is very necessary you always download of backup of your current theme before applying a new one so you don't get yourself in a irreversible situation.

Backing up your template/theme is easy, just click on the "Download theme" button and choose a place to save the backup (.xml) file. Don't just download the backup into your phone or laptop, you can as well make a cloud backup of it, to be on the safer side.

After having your old theme backed up, next is to upload your new template. Click on the "Choose File" button and choose the directory where you have the new template saved, select it and click on the "Upload" button.

If the new template is well coded properly, you will get "Uploaded successfully" as a response (screenshot below).
